Fix a Leak Week

Every summer we get calls because our customers are concerned about their high water bill and feel it may have something to do with the sprinklers. Although it is often due to a leak in the sprinkler system it is also often because of different leaks inside the home. We’ll come out to the home and shut off the main supply to the sprinkler and still see the water meter slowly turning leading us to find leaks in the toilets, faucets, showers, etc.

The EPA WaterSense program is putting on an event called Fix a Leak Week. Basically from March 16-20th they want you to take care of those small drips that add up to big money and water wasters.

This is a great time to make sure you take care of your leaks because your sprinklers are shut off for the winter. If you can make sure you aren’t wasting any water before we turn on your sprinklers in the spring, we can more easily tell if any water is being wasted through the sprinkler system.

Winter Trade Show

Yesterday we attended a trade show put on by one of our suppliers, Central Irrigation Supply.  It was a nice mix of fun, food, and education.  Jeff Carowitz from Strategic Force Marketing was the headliner while other vendors gave quick presentations on their new products.  While Mr. Carowitz did a great job inspiring everyone to rethink their business for the upcoming year, I think Hunter stole the show.

Our regional rep from Hunter, Jeff, went over everything new at Hunter Industries.  Although he had an entire half hour presentation for everything new, we wanted to let you know about the three updates most interesting to us.  Follow the links or drop us a message if you want to find out more about any of them!

1) XC Hybrid controller – Basically a hybrid between an AC and DC sprinkler timer.  It can operate up to 12 stations either by battery power or AC.  If you needed to water an area where it was difficult to get AC power this could be your solution.  The great part is you can use it with AC and if the power ever goes out the battery backup will actually run your programs as normal and not just save your program for when the power comes back on.

2) Solar Sync – Think rain sensor on steroids (except it won’t be kept out of the hall of fame).  It still does the basic function of a rain sensor (if it’s raining it won’t water, if it’s dry it’ll run it’s normal program) but much more.  It also records solar radiation and air temperature to act as an ET or “Smart” controller.  You set your program up once and the solar sync will increase or decrease your run times as needed depending on rain, temperature, and sun.  This addition alone provides substantial water (and $) savings.

3) PGP Ultra- This is actually so new they don’t even have the information on their site yet (I should have taken a picture). Basically they took the worlds best selling rotor and made it better.  The biggest thing for the homeowner is that you no longer need a special tool to adjust it.

That’s all for now…. about 8 hours of new material highlighted in five minutes.

Oh… and Irritrol has the best new hat for 2009.

New Irritrol Hat!

2009

Just a quick hello to let you all know we’re still here and still making it rain.

We realize 2009 is shaping up to be a scary year for everybody.  And although several of our competitors closed shop last year, we’re more excited than ever (and taking on new customers)!

We’re busy getting contracts, spring mailings, and vehicles in order.  If you haven’t received anything from us by the end of March… Call!

After a winter like this I’m sure we’re all ready for some greener grass…
